Barbara Enger

Barbara Enger, 76, of Jamestown, ND passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at her home in Jamestown. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bilden-Askew Funeral Home in Northwood, ND. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to the Goose River Cemetery, 1593 143rd Ave NE, Hatton, ND 58240.

Barbara Jean Enger was born to Douglas and Lillian (Thompson) Enger on November 25, 1945, in Mavville, ND. She attended school in rural Newburgh Township, graduated from Hatton High School, and received an elementary teaching degree from Mayville State University. She taught in Steele, N.D. and then in Jamestown, ND, for 23 years. She later worked as a daycare representative for a government food program and also enjoyed caring for children as a daycare substitute.

Family was everything to Barb, and she loved spoiling her five nieces and nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews. She enjoyed baking them cinnamon thumb cookies and making special holiday-themed Jello Jigglers. As a former teacher, she enjoyed hearing about their adventures at school, always calling on the first day and wishing them well as they participated in sports and activities.

She cherished her strong Norwegian heritage, helping to plan and attend family reunions and was an active member of Goose River Church in Hatton.

Barb enjoyed many years of playing the piano, singing in the church choir, attending bible studies and knitting things such as baby booties for newborns of loved ones. She participated in the Sons of Norway and the Jamestown Retired Teachers Association and was a Twins baseball fan.

She was known for her sense of humor and friendly demeanor, love of family and friends and deep pride in her Lutheran faith. She enjoyed regular visits with many special friends, relatives, neighbors, former teachers, and students.

Barb is preceded in death by her parents Douglas and Lillian Enger. She is survived by her brothers David (Eileen) and Steven (Dorothy), aunts Monica Anderson and Donna Gramstad and several nieces and nephews.
