Carla Sletten

Carla Sletten, 67, of Northwood, ND passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Northwood Deaconess Health Center surrounded by her loving family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, December 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Reynolds, ND. A visitation will be held Sunday, December 8, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the Bilden-Askew Funeral Home in Northwood.

CarlaJo Hanson was born March 5, 1952 in Granite Falls, MN, the daughter of James and Donnalou (Nelson) Hanson. She attended Fairmont High School, graduating in 1970. Carla graduated from NDSU with a nursing degree in 1973. She continued to work as a registered nurse before settling in 1983 at Northwood Deaconess Health Center, where she became Director of Nursing until her retirement in 2014. Carla was honored as Nurse of the Year by the National Association of Directors of Nursing Administration of Long Term Care.

Carla was an avid sports fan who especially loved watching her children and grandchildren play sports. On a Saturday and Sunday during football season, you would be sure to catch her watching the NDSU Bison and the Vikings, while also managing her fantasy football teams. During the summer, Carla loved tending to her flower gardens. She was also an enthusiastic hunter, both participating and supporting all the family hunting trips.

More than anything, Carla was known for her generous and loving heart. She extended her kindness to her family, friends, and even strangers. She was the mom that everybody wishes they had.

Carla’s greatest passion in her life was her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, James; son, Jason (Monica), Northwood, ND; daughters: Shannon (DeeJay) Johnson, Park River, ND; Katie (Corey) Huus, Northwood, ND; Heather (Jon) Studsrud, Fargo, ND; and Molly (Ryan) Tabery, Wadena, MN; grandchildren: Jaylie, Tucker, Jayce, McKenzie, Andrew, Kenley, Tatum, Beckham, Morgan, and Hadley; brother, James Hanson, Phillips, WI; sister, Jeni (Mike) Klein, Marshall, MN; Carla is also survived by brother and sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

Carla was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law, Knute Sletten, and brother-in-law, Michael Sletten.

Carla was loved by many and will be forever missed by all who knew her.
