Charles Swenson

March 19, 1939 — December 11, 2021

Charles Swenson, 82, of Northwood, ND passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021, at his home in Northwood. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Free Lutheran Church in Northwood. A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be held in the Northwood Cemetery.

Charles was born March 19, 1939, the son of Selmer and LuVerne (Haugo) Swenson, at Northwood. He attended grade school at rural Northwood and graduated from Northwood High School in 1957.

Charlie was employed at the Northwood State Bank for 33 years and drove truck for Emmett B. Fisher and Denny Gabriel Construction, Inc. for 50 years, retiring in 2011. He was a member of the North Dakota Army National Guard from 1956 to 1964. He also served on the Northwood Public School Board.

In 1961 he married Faye Simley, the love of his life, in Mayville, N.D.

Faye survives along with four daughters, Beth Swenson, Becky Korsmo, Bonnie Swenson, and Beverly Swenson; grandchildren, Christa (Jason) Strand, Sarah (Jayson) Lider, Ryan, Riley (Katie Johnson), and Ryland Korsmo, Brayden and Bailey Irvine, Shawn, Jack, and Charlie Gibson; and great-grandchildren Mavrik, Jinnie, and Clint Strand and Nadia, Maggie, and Leena Lider.

He is also survived by his sister, Janet (Henry) Thorstenson, and his brother, Oscar Swenson; Faye’s siblings and their spouses, Joan Headline, Kathy (Gene) Neset, David (Sandy) Simley, Lee Simley, Luther (Paula) Simley, and Cindy (Bob) Brinkley; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Roger Korsmo; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Judith and Ingolf Simley; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Phyllis and Joe Tate, Harold Hamilton, Fran Headline, Linda and Leonard Marthe, and Paul Simley.
