Clara Hanson, 95, of Hatton, ND passed away Friday, June 13, 2014 at Hatton Prairie Village in Hatton. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 16, 2014 at 2:00p.m. at Hatton Prairie Village Chapel in Hatton. A visitation will be held one hour before the time of the service at Hatton Prairie Village.
Clara was born June 6, 1919 to Adolph and Agness (Lyche) Sorensen. She was raised near Hatton and also attended school at Morgan #2, rural Hatton. As a child, Clara played kitten ball, skied and skated, enjoyed board games, and was taught to drive a model T Ford by her father. She also worked on the family farm as a child and young adult. Clara had a childhood dream of becoming a missionary and did not attend school beyond the 8th grade.
On November 26, 1960, Clara married Harry Hanson Sr. at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton. Harry passed away October 3, 1987.
She worked at Johnson Clothing and Grocery in Hatton for a couple years, and worked as a nurse's aid at Tri County Nursing Home in Hatton for 15 years. Clara belonged to the Tri County Nursing Home auxillary, which furnished bed linens and curtains, and was involved in fund raising through bake sales and suppers. She was active in church work and teaching Sunday School at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Hatton, for 30 years. Clara lived with, and took care of her mother and father for several years until they passed away. She also worked with her brother, Byron, at Hatton Plexilite Company.
Survivors include her step-daughter, Nita (Bernie) Johnson, Hatton, ND; grandchildren: Randy (Margo) Johnson, Fargo, ND, Tim (Sheila) Johnson, Fargo, ND; great-grandchildren: Michael, Molly (Jordan), Jeremy (Molly), Bryan (Paige), Seth (Amy); great-great-grandchildren: Haylee, Mikayla, Emma, Aly, Emberly, Piper, and Sidney; sister, Eileen Horpedahl, Grand Forks, ND, sister-in-law, Lila B. Sorensen, Grand Forks, ND. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Harry, brothers: Willard, Byron, and Roland Sorensen; sisters: Sylvia Sorensen and Helen Bostrom.
