David Vold

January 20, 1936 — February 17, 2025

John David Vold, 89, of Hatton, ND, passed away Monday, February 17, 2025, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND, surrounded by family and friends. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton. A visitation will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church.

Dave Vold was born on January 20, 1936, in Watertown, SD the son of John and Berniece (Hegstad) Vold. He grew up in Clark, SD and Montpelier, ND. He attended Oak Grove Lutheran High School in Fargo, ND where he met the love of his life, Elaine Ysteboe and later married in 1956. He joined the Army/AirForce after graduation and served from 1954-1956 as an automotive mechanic in the sixth armored division. He was stationed in Germany and spent much of his time there traveling throughout Europe, playing basketball with the Army team.

In 1956, he attended Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, where he earned his degree in education. In 1960, he worked on his advanced degree at Moorhead State, MN. In 1962, he accepted a position in Hatton, ND, where he was an educator for 32 years until his retirement in 1994.

Retirement was extremely busy. He was involved with numerous community projects and served on many councils. St. John Lutheran church and the American Legion were very dear to his heart. Volunteering and helping people were a priority for Dave. He used his carpentry skills not only for enjoyment but also projects including Habitat for Humanity.

Spending time with family and friends was also one of his favorite activities, being a Grandpa/Great Grandpa was also highly valued.

Survivors: wife: Elaine, children: Jim (Jane) Vold, Jane Rufenacht. Grandchildren: DJ (Molly) Vold, Paul (Sara) Vold, Dillon Rufenacht. Great Grandchildren: Avery, Wheeler, Kase, Tate. Special family: Jo, Kirstie, Karlie, Gracie, Mason, Moses, Scarlett, and Willow Smith

Preceded in Death: parents John and Berniece (Hogstad) Vold. Brothers: Harold, Paul, Joe. Sisters: Connie Strand, Lois Justus, Grace Wagner. Children: Michael John, Baby Boy Vold, Timothy Ray, Jerry David, son-in-law Rob Rufenacht.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers send memorials to St. John Lutheran Church, Hatton area community foundation.
