Donald was born on the homestead farm in Steele County, which has been in the family continuously for over 130 years. Donald and his wife, Odelle, have farmed this land for the last 74 years.
Donald loved being a farmer. He started with horses and cows and kept moving up to larger and larger machinery. He was known as being able to fix anything which is important for successful farming. Donald loved planting a large garden and eating and sharing all of the produce. He did not like the weeding!
Donald and Odelle enjoyed traveling. They visited from the East coast to the West coast of the United States by car. They enjoyed a trip to Norway, a trip to Greece, and an Alaskan Cruise.
When time allowed, Donald played a mean game of cards, preferably smear or pinocle.
Donald and Odelle reined as the Lefse King and Queen of Steele County. People were known to travel for many miles for this treat and to order from out of state.
Donald was active in the Farmers Union, Trinity Lutheran Church in Sharon, 4-H and the Silent Hill Chapel Committee as well as being a life-long, strong Democrat.
Survivors include his wife, Odelle; children: Faye (Gary) Gallagher, Douglas (Trudy) Evenstad, and Donovan (Regina) Evenstad; seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patty Johnson, his parents, Conrad and Elizabeth Evenstad; siblings: Conrad, Arbie, Erma, Milo, Owen, Roy, Edna, Vina, Lola, and Carrol, Wayne.
