Dorothy Ann Flaten

March 20, 1961 — May 12, 2016

Dorothy Ann Flaten, 55, of Hatton, ND passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016 at her home in Hatton, under the loving care of Hospice, after a long battle with heart problems and strokes. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton. A visitation will be held Monday, May 16, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. family service at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton.

Dorothy was bon to Myron and Delores (Balstad) Mastrud on March 20, 1961. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton. She attended public school in Hatton and graduated in 1979. On June 17, 1978, Dorothy married David Flaten at St. John Lutheran Church. They have lived in Hatton their entire married life. They were blessed with one daughter, Melinda and three precious grandsons, who were the loves of her life.

Dorothy did a lot of babysitting growing up and worked at various other jobs but found her niche was still babysitting when she started working for Sandi Christensen at her daycare. Dorothy started her own daycare on May 27, 1996 in her home and continued doing daycare until her death.

Dorothy also enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, listening to the 70's music, collecting Coca-Cola items and helping others. She will be dearly missed by her family, her extended daycare families, friends and her dog, Cocoa.

Survivors include her loving husband, David; daughter, Melinda Flaten; grandsons: Cameron, Chase and Colton; mother, Delores Mastrud, Hatton; sisters: Susan (Steve) Aune, Lake City, FL; Debra (Jim) Frandson, Hunter, ND; Judy (Tim) Richardson, Deer Park, AL; Tami (Kip) Ostlie, Hatton, ND; Patty (Scott) Marks, Pierce, NE; Brothers: Gary (Marlene) Mastrud, East Grand Forks, MN; Tim (Cindy) Mastrud, Rifle, CO; and adopted brother, Rick (Emily) Guzal, Portland, ND; sister-in-law, Cathy Mastrud, Bismarck, ND; Dorothy is also survived by her dog Cocoa, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, aunts, uncles, and all past and present daycare children.

Preceding her in death was her father, Myron; brother, Butch; brother-in-law, Mike Holkesvig; and dog, Buffy.
