Elvin Trageton

Elvin O. Trageton, 90, of Fargo, ND and formerly of Northwood, ND, passed away on December 29, 2016 at Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 2, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Northwood Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northwood. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Elvin was born on a cold winter day on January 5, 1926, on the family farm in Northwood, ND, the oldest son of ten children of Arne O. and Caroline Trageton. He attended Sunnyside School, a one room school house, until 8th grade. In 1940, his father passed away and Elvin, at the young age of 14, began to manage the family farm.

Elvin married Joyce Carlson on June 1, 1963. He continued farming, with his wife, Joyce, by his side, until he was 64 years old. In 1960, he delivered the first busload of students to Northwood Public School, and continued driving bus for 42 years. After retirement, Elvin and Joyce resided in Mayville, ND before making their final transition to Rosewood in Fargo.

Elvin offered a reserved, yet friendly, greeting to all. He enjoyed antiques, his wife's cooking, driving his '31 Chevy in local parades, farming and spending time with family. He was a member of Northwood Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving on church council and the Northwood township board.

Elvin was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Palmer, Howard, Oliver, and sisters Lyla, Adeline (Brorby), Cora (Jorde), and Ruth (Lyste).

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, and their three children, Jeannette (Mike) Repoyo of Fargo, ND, Karen (Mark) Bohl of Normal, IL, and Dawn (Kevin) Halvorson of El Paso IL, and seven grandchildren: Johnathan, Amber and Allison Repoyo, Elise (Stan) Boyer, Chris Bohl, Kayla and Dylan Halvorson. Brother Arne and sister Mildred (Rudrud) also survive.
