Emmett B. Fisher

April 5, 1930 — January 3, 2011

Emmett B. Fisher, 80, of Northwood, North Dakota died Monday, January 3, 2011 at his home after a short battle with cancer surrounded by his wife and children.

Memorial Services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the Larimore United Methodist Church in Larimore.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services.

Emmett B. Fisher was born April 5, 1930 in Grand Forks, North Dakota the son of Roland and Louise (Newman) Fisher. He grew up at Logan Center, North Dakota and graduated from Larimore High School. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 and was stationed in San Antonio Texas and Sacramento, California. On December 23, 1953 he was united in marriage to Betty Margaret Eider on the Fisher Family Farm in Logan Center. They made their home on the farm until moving into Northwood in 1965. In 1975 they purchased the farm where he farmed for many years. Emmett also worked as an over-the-road truck driver since 1960 and continued until November of 2010.

He was a member of the Larimore United Methodist Church, the Northwood American Legion and the Goose River Hoof and Wheel Tractor Club.

Emmett will be dearly missed by his wife of 59 years, Betty; children, Susan (Donald) Graves of Cloquet, Minnesota, Nathan (Jill) Fisher of Northwood, North Dakota and Amy (David) Gunderson of Virginia, Minnesota; grandchildren, Lee (Amy) Graves, Shannon (Mark) Powell, Drake Fisher, Alexis Gunderson and Taylor Gunderson; sisters, Beverly Marien of International Falls, Minnesota, Rena Thurman of San Diego, California, Janet Nissen of Grand Forks, North Dakota and Judith Metcalf of Fargo, North Dakota; brother, Jess (Nancy) Fisher of Northwood, North Dakota and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Fugleberg, niece, Jennifer Marien and nephew, Ray Thurman.

The Bilden Funeral Home of Northwood is assisting the family with arrangements.
