H. Thomas Iverson, 67, of Mayville, ND lost his battle with cancer on Monday, Jan. 5, 2008 at Union Hospital in Mayville.
Tom was born September 11, 1941 in Northwood, ND to Herman and Thelma (Brekke) Iverson. He spent his childhood in Hatton, ND and graduated from Hatton High School in 1959. He graduated from Mayville State University in 1963 and earned his Master's Degree in mathematics from NDSU in 1965. Tom married Mary Hanson of Mayville, ND on August 9, 1969. They lived in St. Thomas for 8 years before moving to Mayville, ND in 1977. They have 2 children, Kenn and Tami. Tom was a well-respected math teacher who taught for over 40 years in the high schools of Larimore, St. Thomas, and May-Port. Currently, he was a part time math professor at Mayville State University.
Tom was a member of Mayville Lutheran Church and was active in the church choir for more than 30 years. He was also a member of the American Legion and loved participating in the Traillblazers community choir. Tom's list of priorities were his faith, family, and friends. He enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting & fishing; music; keeping up with all sporting events, and fireworks.
Tom is survived by his wife, Mary, Mayville; two children: Kenn Iverson, Jamestown, ND, and Tami (Scott) Parker, Newfolden, MN; two granddaughters: Kinsey and Isabell Parker, Newfolden, MN; one sister, Nancy (Perry) Weber, Seward, Nebraska; two sisters-in-law: LeAnne (Keith) Dressel, Fargo, ND and Judy (Greg) White, Jamestown, ND; one brother-in-law: Donn (Beth) Hanson; 9 nieces and nephews; 7 great-nieces and nephews; and several cousins.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8 with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Mayville Lutheran Church.
Funeral: 2:00 pm Friday, January 9, 2008 at Mayville Lutheran Church.
Interment: St. John Cemetery, Hatton, North Dakota
Memorials may be directed to the Bye-Iverson Scholarship Fund or Hanson-Ness Scholarship Fund at Mayville State University.
