Hartland C. Spicer was born January 9, 1926, at Grand Forks to Charles and Mary (Morgan) Spicer. He grew up and attended school in Grand Forks. For many years, he worked as a taxi cab driver in Grand Forks and assisted potato growers. Hartland's hobbies included watching trains, going down the Red River, visiting parks, long walks, attending his garden and raspberry bushes, picture taking, spending time with his family, country music, and storytelling. He always had the ability to get a smile out of anyone, and his "grandpa" hugs were very comforting. Hartland had a great love for his country, and in his later years church became a large part of his life.
Hartland is survived by children Jewel (Eric) Shelton, Herring, IL; Barb (Todd) Leeson, Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren Daniel (Katie) Zakopyko, Ashley Zakopyko, Mary (Brad) Hale, Michelle (Danny) Monette, and Mindy Leeson; great grandchildren: Jazmynne, Natascha, Anthony, Samantha, Katrina, Caleb, and Adrian.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sons Ray and Charles, and great granddaughter Kendra.
Hartland Spicer, 86, of Northwood and formerly of Grand Forks, passed away Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Northwood Deaconess Health Center, Northwood, ND.
