Hazel Hegg

Hazel Hegg, 88, of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Northwood, ND, passed away Friday, July 12, 2019 at Parkwood Place in Grand Forks. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Northwood Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northwood. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Hazel was born April 13, 1931 to Arthur and Alpha (Brenna) Holter in rural Hatton, ND. She attended and graduated from Northwood Public School in 1949. During that time she was a waitress at the local cafe and worked during the potato harvest.

In high school she met and fell in love with Myron “Mike” Hegg. They were married at Ebenezer Lutheran Church on April 8, 1951. They purchased the Hegg family farm where she worked at taking care of the home and cooking delicious meals for the farmers. During that time they had three children; Joady, Randy, and Darcy. Darcy passed away shortly after birth.

Hazel and Mike enjoyed spending 30 winters in Pharr, TX. Much of their summers were spent fishing and enjoying time with friends and family at Leech Lake in Walker, MN. Hazel loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always had doughnuts waiting for them when they came to visit. She enjoyed quilting and made one for each of her grandchildren for their graduation. She watched Wheel of Fortune each day and always tried to race against the contestants to solve the puzzles. She was also a loyal Minnesota Twins fan and spent many afternoons and evenings cheering them on with Mike.

Hazel is survived by her children: Joady Wagner, Pettibone, ND, Randy (Tati) Hegg, Northwood, ND; Grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Heidi Wagner, Carrington, ND; Hoyt (Cara) Wagner and their daughter, Catie Jo, Pettibone, ND; Amy (Troy) Myron and their children, Brenden, Rylan, and Carter, Northwood, ND; Rhonda (Troy) Enger, Northwood, ND; Ryndee (Chad) Veer and their children, Landyn, Alec, and Kjeldee, Northwood, ND; Cydnee (Derrick) Strand and their children, Norah, Nolan, and Nixon, Northwood, ND; sister Verona (John) Bilden, Pharr, TX; brother Steve (Marilyn) Holter, Tequesla, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Mike; daughter Darcy; brothers-in-law Curt Hegg, Wally Hegg, and Bob Mutchler; sister-in-law Mary Hegg; son-in-law Hubert Wagner.
