Ida Thorstenson of Northwood, North Dakota died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at the Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the Ebenezer Free Lutheran Church in Northwood with burial in Northwood City Cemetery. Pastor Dean Lyste, officiated the service and music was cared for by Janet Thorstenson and Heidi Thorstenson, Soloists and Marian Savage, Organist.
Serving as Pallbearers were Charles and Veronica League, Henry and Janet Thorstenson, Kirk and Heidi Thorstenson, Shad and Neilee Thorstenson, Kip Thorstenson, Ian Thorstenson and Richard and Margaret Wall.
Visitation will be at the Bilden Funeral Home on Monday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a 7:00 pm Prayer Service and one hour prior to services in the church.
Ida Peterson was born February 3, 1914 at Kempton, North Dakota the daughter of Henry and Johanna (Iverson) Peterson. She was raised on a farm rural Kempton where she went to country school before attending Northwood High School. After graduation she attended Union Commercial Business College in Grand Forks, North Dakota. On December 21, 1935 was united in marriage to Alvin Thorstenson. They made their home in Northwood through the years and Alvin passed away on March 19, 1996. In November of 2004 she became a resident of the Northwood Deaconess Health Center.
Ida was a lifelong member of the Ebenezer Lutheran Church. She enjoyed play with and teaching bridge to her many friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Veronica (Charles) League of Escondido, California; son, Henry (Janet) Thorstenson of Grand Forks, North Dakota; grandsons, Kirk (Heidi) Thorstenson of Argyle, Minnesota and Shad (Neilee) Thorstenson of Rochester, Minnesota; great-grandchildren, Kip, Ian, Elsie, Abram and Cora Lu Thorstenson; her special niece, Margaret Wall of Placentia, California and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alvin, brothers, Engwald, Magnus, Helmer, Emil and Tilman, sisters, Milla Peterson, Selma Holweger and Dagny Conrads and great-grandson, Noah Wagner Thorstenson.
The Bilden Funeral Home of Northwood is assisting the family with arrangements.
