Idella Gudrun Rydland passed away early Sunday morning, October 21st, at age 90. She was most recently living at Bethany Retirement Community on University Dr. in Fargo. Idella was born December 24, 1921 on the family farm near Hatton, ND, to Christian and Emma (Olson) Rydland. She grew up near Hatton, graduated from Hatton High School in 1941 and was the first member of her family to attend college, graduating from Mayville State Teacher's College in the early 1940s. After serving at various rural schools in the area, she joined the Fargo School District in the early 1950s. Idella taught first grade at Ben Franklin and Jefferson elementary schools in Fargo, retiring in the late 1980s after 35 years of service, returning to the family farm to care for her elderly mother. Throughout her life, Idella was of service to others. Although she never had children of her own, she impacted the lives of children through her teaching, especially touching the lives of her four nephews and nieces as well as their children...as a loving and caring aunt, friend and mentor. Idella's living legacy is the thousands of children throughout the Fargo area and beyond that have felt her guiding touch.
Idella was preceded in death by her father, Christian and her mother, Emma, as well as her brother Carrol and her nephew, Eric Corbet. She is survived by her sister, Edna Corbet and her brother-in-law, Wendell Corbet, as well as one nephew, Chris Corbet, two nieces, Jane Hinschberger and Ann (Ron) Bachmeier. She is also survived by two grand nephews, seven grand nieces, one great-grand nephew and one great-grand niece.
The funeral for Idella will be held Monday, October 29th at 2:00 pm at Hatton Prairie Village, Hatton, ND. She will be laid to rest at the Washington Prairie Cemetery, alongside her mother, father, brother and nephew.
