James Foss

October 19, 1939 — September 21, 2017

James (Jimmy) A. Foss, 77, of Hatton, ND passed away peacefully Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Hatton Prairie Village in Hatton. A memorial service will be held Monday, September 25 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton. A visitation will be held Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. with a 4:00 p.m. prayer service at the church.

James Foss was born October 19, 1939 to Alvin and Adeline (Martin) Foss in Garfield Township. He grew up helping on the farm, attending country school and graduating from Hatton High School in 1957. Jimmy was a member of the National Guard for six years, worked at Hatton Co-Op Oil and Nodak REA before he starting farming which was in his blood. In the winter months, Jimmy worked at Hatton Ford as a salesman which turned into a 30 year stint. He was a member of the Hatton Fire Department for over 50 years. He was baptized, confirmed, and was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton.

On June 10, 1962, Jimmy married June Walswick at Beaver Creek Church. They raised four wonderful sons: Jeff (Carrie), Jerry (Christi), Justin (Tracy), and Joel (Laura); He had 10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and a step-grandson. Jimmy enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it be watching them play sports, hunting, or the boys helping on the farm.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Don; and sister, Arlene; mother and father-in-law, brother-in-law, Vernal, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
