John Frederick Carlson

John Frederick Carlson, 90, of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Northwood, ND, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks, where he had been a resident since November 6, 2009. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 3:00p.m. at the Bilden Funeral Home in Northwood. A visitation will be held from 2:00p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Fred was born to Gust and Myrtle Carlson on February 7, 1926 at Northwood, ND. He attended school in Northwood and graduated from high school in 1944. Immediately following his high school graduation, Fred entered the U.S. Navy and served on a ship in the Pacific during World War II. After his military service, he came home to live and work. In 1959, Fred moved to Grand Forks and worked at Weiser Finance.
Fred was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and true friend to everyone he considered his extended family. He was a very giving and compassionate person, always showing concern for family and friends or others in need.
Survivors include his sisters: Marge (Michael) McMahon, Larimore, ND; Fern (James) Virden, Donna (Martin) Knudsvig, both of Grand Forks, ND; Patsy Bjoralt, Fargo, ND; brother, Toby Carlson, Grand Forks, ND; and several nieces and nephews, whom he loved and cherished.
Preceding him in death were his parents, sister, Mendora, and two brothers: Floyd and Gorman.
