Kathryn Tufte

June 30, 1935 — October 12, 2021

Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother Kathryn Ann Tufte, née Stevning, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 18, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the Bilden-Askew Funeral Home in Northwood, ND. A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

She is survived by Donald, her husband of sixty-eight years; three children, Darryl Tufte (Lori), Julie Brorby (Michael), and Rhonda Martin; eleven grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, Alan Tufte, and her brother Donald Stevning.

Kathy was born in Mayville, North Dakota to Kernel and Alice Stevning on June 30, 1935. She married Donald in 1953, and they soon settled into an active life in Northwood, North Dakota. They farmed the family farm near Northwood for many years. Often involved in community youth activities, Kathy and Donald together owned and operated the House of Wheels roller-skating rink in Northwood. They were also members at the Northwood Evangelical Lutheran Church for many years, where Kathy volunteered with the Sunday school, women’s club, and more. Kathy enjoyed winters in Mesa, Arizona with her husband, where she was often visited by family and friends.

Kathy left a deep impression on her friends and neighbors. She was as familiar to those who knew her for her wit as for her kindness. A devoted grandmother, Kathy was also well-known among the friends of her children and grandchildren as a sharp-minded, solicitous, generous woman. She will be greatly missed.
