Lenora Hanson, 88, of Hatton, ND passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 surrounded by her family at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 16, 2015 at 10:30a.m at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton. A visitation will be held Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00p.m with a 7:00p.m family service at the Hatton Prairie Village Chapel in Hatton.
Lenora was born March 21, 1927 at her parent's home in Golden Lake Township, Finley, ND, the daughter of Arnold and Ella (Johnson) Berg. In 1945, Lenora married Chester O. Hanson, who was still on active duty in the US Army. They made their home in Finley, rural Finley, and rural Portland before moving to Hatton in 1950.
Lenora did various things to supplement the family income such as cutting seed potatoes in the spring, harvesting potatoes by hand in the fall, doing laundry for others and waitressing at cafes in Hatton. In 1964, she was recruited by one of her café customers, Gladys Sanden, to work for her at the Tri-County Nursing Home (now called Hatton Prairie Village). Lenora was very proud that she was one of the original employees of the home and worked there for 29 years. Shortly after retirement, she and Chester moved to Buxton. Mom's hands were never idle as she was always busy baking her delicious baked goods, cross stitching her beautiful pictures, gardening, mowing her beautiful and meticulous yard. Mom always had a remodeling project going. Every time she had one completed, we wondered what's next. Mom also enjoyed watching and listening to the Minnesota Twins and an occasional trip to the casino. She also would pull out the playing cards every time her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren came around, laughing and having a good time all the while. Whenever a grandchild graduated, they requested that grandma make her potato salad for their reception. If you needed someone to talk to her, her ear was always ready to listen and reassure you everything would be alright.
In February of 2014, Lenora moved to an assisted living apartment at Hatton Prairie Village and in May of 2015, she became a resident of Hatton Prairie Village, where she resided at the time of her passing.
Lenora is survived by her son, Allan (Janet), Devils Lake, ND; Daughters: Diane (Ron) Eliason, Buxton, ND; Eileen (Ken) Wilson, Grand Forks, ND; Connie (Robbin) Field, Fargo, ND; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; sister, Janet Larson, Aneta, ND; brothers: Andrew (Junis) Berg, Mayville, ND; Arnold (Arletta) Berg, Sabin, MN; Arlin (Betty) Berg, Loveland, CO. Lenora is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Chester, who passed away on May 4, 2002; her parents; grandson, Robert Eliason; sister, Arabella Beno; and brothers: Marlowe, Claris, Loren and Manfred Berg.
