Marie Burud

Marie Burud, 99, of Hatton, ND passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Marie Berg was born January 15, 1920 in Eurika, CA to Enoch and Mabel (Hastad) Berg. They moved to North Dakota when she was 3 months old and homesteaded in Blaisdell, ND.

Marie was baptized and confirmed at Shell Creek Lutheran Church, rural Blaisdell. She attended Minot State College. After schooling, Marie taught in rural schools at Blaisdell and Golden Lake, near Hatton. On September 7, 1941, Marie married Milton Burud at Shell Creek Lutheran Church near Blaisdell. She worked at the Hatton Post Office as a clerk and assistant Postmaster for 20 years before retiring in 1985.

Marie was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and held many offices in the W.E.L.C.A. She was a member of women’s organizations and taught Sunday School for over 25 years.

Survivors include her sons: Dennis (Barbara), Bottineau, ND; Terry (Myrna), Minot, ND; Richard, Jackson, MN; grandchildren: Jason (Kim) Burud, Fargo, ND and children, Joshua, Austin, Gabby and Kyle; Paul (Kristin) Burud, Fargo, ND and children, Alison, Tyler; Donna Cushing, Shakopee, MN; Bradley (Charlsie) Burud, Minot, ND and children, Jagger, Kenadee and Laikyn; Jim (Melissa) Burud, Kenmare, ND and children, Grace and Justin; Heather (Kip) Wachal and children, Hadley and Madisyn; Becky (Matthew) Kolander and children, Macy and Carson; Lisa (Kollin) VanDeVere and children, Miley and Kinley; all of Jackson, MN; sisters: Echo Kjallberg, Minot, ND; Luella Dunn, Naples, FL.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, Milton, brother, Gordon Berg; brothers-in-law, Adrian Dunn and Carl Kjallberg.
