Mark Lenus Larson, 78, of Northwood, ND passed away Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. A visitation will be held Friday October 1, 2021, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a 6:00p.m. prayer service at the Bilden-Askew Funeral Home in Northwood.
Mark was born in Roseau, Minnesota, September 16, 1943 to Reverend Arvid and Lena Larson. He grew up and attended school in Strandquist and Eagle Bend, MN, moving to Northwood his senior year of high school. He served in the Army National Guard and graduated from Mayville College with majors in English and Math. Mark taught school in Bisbee N.D. and Braham MN. In 1969, he obtained a National Science Foundation Award and received his Master of Mathematics degree from the University of South Carolina. He returned to teaching at Red River high school in Grand Forks ND, where he was head of the math department and coached several cross country teams to state championships. In 1980, Mark retired from teaching and returned to Northwood to begin a 30 year career selling Farmers Union Insurance.
Mark married Ellen Young on November 25 of 1972.
Survivors include his children: Nathan (Ann) Larson of Northwood; Sarah (Graham) Rios of Santa Ynez, CA; grandchildren: Megan and Jace Larson, Chase and Kaia Rios; brothers: Paul, David, and Joel; sisters: Grace and Faith.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Arvid and Lena Larson; sister, Joyce Anderson; and Brothers: John, Lemuel, and Seth Larson.
