Maynard Mattern, 93, of Hatton, ND passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Hatton Prairie Village in Hatton. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 29, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bilden-Askew Funeral Home in Northwood, ND. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Maynard Mattern was born June 10, 1928, to Earl and Matilda (Lee) Mattern. He grew up in the Mohall/Sherwood area and joined the United States Navy. On March 26, 1949, Maynard married Marie Dionne in Mohall, ND. The couple farmed in the Sherwood, ND area until 1955. They then moved to Tacoma, WA where Maynard worked as a welder for Boeing Aircraft. While at Boeing, he helped build the Lunar Rover, the first car that went to the moon. Maynard and Marie retired and moved to Hatton. During his retirement years, he enjoyed woodworking and building small pieces of furniture.
Survivors include his son: Darold Mattern, Hatton; Gary Mattern, Hatton; daughters: Barbara Riemer, Hillsboro, ND; Joyce Mattern Cambronero, Seattle, WA; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Diane Coffin and Mary Ann Bell; brother, David (Diane) Mattern;
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Marie, son Craig, brother Robert Mattern, and sister Doris Johnson.
