Merle Mehus

Merle Mehus, 91, of Hatton, ND passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Hatton Prairie Village in Hatton. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Bang Lutheran Church, rural Portland, ND. A visitation will be held Friday, June 30, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Hatton Prairie Village in Hatton.

Merle Holmen was born December 4, 1925 at Beaver Creek Township to Clifford and Julia (Bjerke) Holmen. She attended Beaver Creek Township Elementary School and graduated from Hatton High School in 1943. After graduating, Merle moved to Fargo and worked as a waitress. When she moved back to Hatton, she continued working as a waitress in Hatton and Sharon. On February 15, 1947, Merle married Raymo Lloyd Mehus at the Northwood Parsonage.
Raymo and Merle raised their 8 children in Golden Lake Township. Merle enjoyed traveling with family and friends. She traveled to Norway, Hawaii and Washington D.C. She also enjoyed the many years following her children and grandchildren in their sporting events. Merle loved reading, playing bingo, and attending bible study.

Survivors include her children: Marjory (Kent) Hochgraber, Fargo, ND; Maxine Mehus, Finley, ND; Myrna Mehus, Hartford, CT; Marsha Hopkins, Las Vegas, NV; Ronald (Mary) Mehus, Waconia, MN; Ramona (Bob) Asmus, Hudson, WI; Randy (Christy) Mehus, West Fargo, ND; daughter-in-law, Lori Mehus, Finley, ND; grandchildren: Scott Mehus, Ryan Mehus, Kyle Mehus, John Asmus, Jill Hochgraber, Jessica Hochgraber, Erika Hochgraber, Sara Asmus, Danielle (Seth) Kelly, Melanie Mehus, Jana Mehus, Beth Mehus, Kymberly Mehus and Kristina Mehus.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Raymo Mehus; son, Robert Mehus; brothers: Orville Holmen, Tennes Holmen, Norris Holmen; sisters: Jeanette Foss and Eleanore Vigen.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hatton Prairie Village for the care they have given to Merle while she was a resident.
