Norma Jean Skjoiten

December 6, 1923 — August 4, 2015

Norma Jean Skjoiten, 91, of Hatton, ND passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Sanford Hospital in Mayville, ND. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 10, 2015 at 10:30a.m at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton. A visitation will be held Sunday, August 9, 2015 from 3:00 to 6:00p.m with a 6:00p.m prayer service at the Hatton Prairie Village Chapel in Hatton.

Norma Anderson was born December 6, 1923 near Gardner, ND to John and Myrtle (Classon) Anderson. Norma's grandfather, Swan Classon, was a founding father of the Herby Lutheran Church where Norma was baptized and confirmed. She grew up in the Gardner/Prosper area and attended country school there. Norma graduated from Hunter High School in 1941. After high school, she attended Mayville State Teachers College in Mayville, ND. Norma taught in a rural country school near Buxton, ND and then in Washington Township near Hatton. On July 13, 1947, Norma married Paul Skjoiten in Hunter, ND. She was a devoted farm wife and also worked as a nurse's aide at the Tri-County Nursing Home. Norma was active in the St. John Chorus, Ladies Aide, and Homemakers Club. She was also a 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher, seamstress and piano player.

Survivors include her son, David (Faith) Skjoiten, Grand Forks, ND; daughter, Lori Lain, Saint Charles, IL; grandchildren: Trey Skjoiten and Cole Skjoiten, both of Hatton, ND; Conner Lain, Naperville, IL, Morgan Lain, Saint Charles, IL; step-grandchildren: Tyler (Catrina) Foss, Mesa, AZ; Savanah (Dustin) Strand, Grand Forks, ND; Lacey Petersen, Mesa, AZ; great-granddaughter, Paisley Strand; siblings: Merlyn Anderson, Hunter, ND; Dolores Corley, Fargo, ND; Kenneth Anderson, Kailua Kona, Hawaii; JoAnne Martin, Colorado Springs, CO; Norma is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Paul; her parents; sisters: Junelle Moen and Donna Herron; brothers: Gordon Anderson and infant brother Curtis Anderson.
