Norman Mandt

Frederick Norman Mandt, 86, of Northwood, ND passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Washington Lutheran Church, rural Northwood. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Norman was born March 21, 1931 in Grand Forks, ND to Otto and Marie (Grefsheim) Mandt. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a life member of Washington Lutheran Church. In 1949, Norman graduated from Northwood High School. He was a 4H and Boy Scout leader and served as a church council member.

He married his high school sweetheart Audrey and they would have celebrated 65 years together this June. Norman worked for Njaa Oil Co. and Uglem Ness Company.

Norman enjoyed working on his cub cadet mowers, his animals, visiting with customers and friends, traveling and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was known to carry licorice nibs and jelly beans in his shirt pocket.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey (Maurseth) Mandt; children: Mike (Karen) Mandt, Diane (Jeff) Nelson, Kristi (Mike) Poreda; grandchildren: Alicia (Mike) Tolerico, Anthony Mandt, Jessica (Matt) Strand, Paul (Julie) Nelson, Amanda (Doug) Chavis, Nick Poreda; great-grandchildren: Ben, Katie, and Leah Strand, Emily and Madeline Nelson; brother, Richard (Yvonne) Mandt; sister-in-law, Cheryl Mandt and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Otto and Marie; sister, Barbara Brogger; brother, Edward; father and mother-in-law, Torfen and Norma Maurseth; granddaughter, Rebecca Kristine Nelson; brother-in-law, James Brogger.

Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association, Washington Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.

Norman lived and exemplified a humble/simple life lived well. He was much loved.
