Parnell Ostmo, 82, of Sharon, North Dakota died Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Aneta Parkview Health Center in Aneta, North Dakota surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 am, Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sharon with burial in the Sharon Public Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Wednesday at the Bilden Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a 7:00 pm Prayer Service and one hour prior to services in the church.
Parnell was born February 14, 1928 in Steele County the son of Marius and Ragna (Moe) Ostmo on their farm in Beaver Creek Township homesteaded by Parnell's grandfather. He was baptized and confirmed in Beaver Creek Lutheran Church. He attended Beaver Creek Rural School # 2, graduated in 1946 from Hatton High School and attended Interstate Business College.
Parnell married Maribel Long on October 5, 1952 in the Sharon Presbyterian Church. They continued to live on the Ostmo farm, later moving and purchasing the Leo John Long farm, two miles west of Sharon.
In 1958, they became members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Parnell had taken an active part in the community serving on various boards as treasurer of the Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, Secretary of Beaver Creek Farmer Union Local, Trinity Lutheran Church Council and as Treasurer, nine years on the Steele County Stabilization Conservation Committee, Sharon Farmers Elevator, twelve years on the Sharon Township board, member of the Northwood Hospital and Home Board, Treasurer of Sharon Senior Citizens, a member of Steele County Council on Aging, an active volunteer of Sharon Public Cemetery Association and 28 years serving as director for Steele County Mutual Insurance Company.
After retiring from farming the couple moved into Sharon in 1997. They enjoyed their family very much, their activities, interests and family vacations at lake resorts. Parnell and Maribel enjoyed traveling and went on many trips with Parnell's sister and husband, Lorraine and Orville Ness throughout the U.S.
Parnell leaves to mourn his wife of 58 years, Maribel; four children, Peggy (Alan) McCullough, Lisbon, ND, Dr. Robert (Terryl) Ostmo, Wahpeton, ND, Julie (Lon) Zellmer, Aneta, ND and Perry (Patti) Ostmo, Sharon, ND; ten grandchildren, Julie Jansen, Davis McCullough, Karl Ostmo, Per Ostmo, Carrie Nelson, Kelly Gustafson, Liza Ostmo, Gina Ostmo, Joel Ostmo and Drew Ostmo; two great-grandchildren, Seth and Taylor Jansen; two step great-granchildren, Brenna and Holly Marino; one sister,, Lorraine (Orville) Ness and one brother, Morris (ReNae) Ostmo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and great-granddaughter, Alexius Jansen.
The Bilden Funeral Home of Northwood is assisting the family with arrangements.
