Pastor Victor Saude

Victor “Vic” Saude, 94, of Northwood, ND passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 7, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Northwood Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northwood. A visitation will be held Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the Bilden-Askew Funeral Home in Northwood.

Victor A. Saude was born on June 6, 1924 in Barton, ND to Bird and Clara (Fluevog) Saude. He was baptized into Christ on July 20, 1924 by Rev. Ole Swenson. On November 6, 1938, he was confirmed by Rev. J.B. Nystuen in the Barton Lutheran Free Church. Vic received his elementary and secondary education in the Barton Public School, graduating from high school in 1942. After six months of schooling at Wahpeton State School of Science, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served until June 1946. In the fall of 1946, Vic enrolled at the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks, ND and majored in Business Administration, graduating in June of 1949. During college and after, he was employed as a sales representative by the Standard Oil Co.

On September 14, 1952, Vic was united in marriage to Gladys Marie Ronning of Climax, MN. Two children were born from this union: Vicki Lynn on October 16, 1953 and Lon Michael on October 4, 1955.

Vic’s call into the ministry came as a gradual conviction from a Christian home atmosphere, from loving parents and his wife, and from a consciousness that God was calling him into His service. In the fall of 1960, he entered Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul, MN. With the help of his wife, various preaching assignments and a call to serve Richland – Colfax Lutheran Parish, he was able to complete his education. On May 26, 1963, Vic graduated from Seminary. He is especially thankful to God for giving him a Christian wife, Christian parents, and Christian friends who have given him support in his eagerness to serve God in the parish ministry. He answered God’s call and spent 55 years in serving his Lord. Vic also served the Northwood/Washington Lutheran Parish and Our Saviors in Valley City, ND. Upon retirement, he served many interim positions. His final years were spent at Northwood Deaconess Health Center where he had served as chaplain.

Survivors include his loving wife, Gladys, of 65 years; daughter, Vicki (Tim) Saude-Worthington, Grygla, MN; son, Lon (Julie) Saude, Parkers Prairie, MN; grandchildren: Karena (Matthew) Hovland, Sartell, MN; Brandon (Heather) Saude, Clear Lake, MN; Danielle Saude, St. Cloud, MN; great-grandchildren, Kya and Emma Hovland.

On September 2, 2018, Vic met God face to face and was reunited with his parents, siblings and friends.
