Robert "Gayle" Wood, 79, of Pembina, North Dakota died Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Triumph Hospital in Mandan, North Dakota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Assumption Catholic Church in Pembina with burial in Pembina City Cemetery.
Visitation will be on at the church on Wednesday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm and one hour prior to services in the church.
Robert Gayle Wood was born December 21, 1929 at home in Joliette, North Dakota the son of Harry A. and Ernestine (Larose) Wood. He was raised in Pembina and went to school there. He worked briefly for the railroad before enlisting the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On January 8, 1955 he was united in marriage to Joyce Arlene Berkley at St. Mary's Cathedral in Fargo. They made their home in Minneapolis where he worked for Buckingham Trucking. He was later transferred to Omaha, Nebraska, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Minot, North Dakota and finally to Williston, North Dakota before Buckingham ceased operations in 1971. The family then moved to Fargo where he worked for Twin City Freight in Moorhead, Minnesota. In 1975 they moved to Pembina where he began working for Wood Brokerage until he retired in 2002. Joyce Arlene Wood died on May 5, 1997.
Robert was a member of Assumption Catholic Church.
He is survived by his sons, James (Lynn) Wood of Omaha, Nebraska and Richard Wood of Northwood, North Dakota; daughter, Cynthia Marshall of Grand Forks, North Dakota; grandchildren, Carissa, Carrie Randy and Chris and great grandchildren, Alexis, Roark, Austin, Caitlyn and Landon; nieces and nephews on the Wood and Huggins side also survive.
He was preceded in death by her parents; wife, Joyce Arlene; brother, Jack (Laverne) Wood and sister, Alice (George) Huggins.
Memorial may be directed to the Robert Wood Memorial Trust at Citizen State Bank in Pembina.
The Bilden Funeral Home of Northwood is assisting the family with arrangements.
