Rose Pic, 92, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at the Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood, ND. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Lawrence O’Toole’s Catholic Church in Michigan, ND. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Rose Beverly Miller was born November 29, 1932, at the family farmstead near Brocket, ND. She was the youngest of four siblings (Clarence, Mary, and Blanche). She attended elementary and high school in Sauter. She then attended Mayville State University where she earned her degree in teaching. Upon graduation, she met the love of her life, Clarence Pic at a dance at Kosobud Hall. They later married in June of 1952. They first settled in a tiny house in Whitman, ND where all the nieces and nephews would gather. After a couple of years, they built a house on the outskirts of town which was easily spotted by all as it was painted the brightest shade of teal. Rose was also often spotted driving her grandkids around Whitman in her golf cart.
Her teaching career spanned decades, touching the lives of many students from Sauter to Whitman, Michigan to Midway, and the Forest River Colony to Fort Totten. She also instilled the love of music into her many piano students over the years.
Rose was a caregiver to many. She was well known for her baking and cooking and there was never a time of day you weren’t served a seven-course meal whether it was morning, noon, or night. She was known for her kolache, rollicky, and cream rolls. Of course, nothing was better than Grandma’s chicken noodle soup.
If she wasn’t cooking, you could see her behind a set of drums playing with the band, the Syncopators. Rose was also a talented seamstress, making many of the clothing items worn by her children. She also loved spending time in her garden tending to her flowers with her loving touch. Rose will be remembered for her warm smile, tender heart, and giving nature.
She is survived by her three children: Anita (Brian) Mathison and their children: Seth (Lacey), Michael, Bryce and Morgan (Greg) Thompson; Jackie (Wayne) Anderson and their children: Jake (Karlee), Kayla (Skyler) Duffy, Laura (Brandon) Trenda; Allan (Cynthia) Pic and their children, Carissa (Gabe) Wirtz and Justin (Kelly); great-grandchildren: Riley, Bowden and Hadley Mathison; Jace, Josie, and Kyler Anderson; Gabriel, Gracelyn, and Gianna Duffy; Jackson and Kinley Trenda; Jovie, Hallie, and Annie Pic; and baby Wirtz who is expected in March.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Tena Miller, and her husband, Clarence Pic.
