Ruth Elaine Halda

Ruth Elaine Halda, 82, of Perham, MN and formerly of Mayville, ND, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Perham Health Center. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014, at 11:00a.m. at Mayville Lutheran Church in Mayville. A visitation will be held from 10:00a.m. until the time of the service. There will also be a memorial service on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 2:00p.m. at Perham Living in Perham, MN. A visitation will be held from 1:30p.m. until the time of the service.
Ruth was born July 9, 1931, in the Beaver Creek Township to Arthur and Prudence (Peterson) Gronhovd. She grew up on a farm in the Beaver Creek area, graduating from Hatton High School in 1949. After high school, Ruth attended Valley City State Teachers College for one year, returning to the Beaver Creek area where she taught rural school for three years. On August 2, 1953, she married Vernon "Chub" Halda at the Beaver Creek Church. Ruth and Vernon enjoyed their time at the lake and built a lake cabin at Big Pine Lake near Perham. Vernon passed away in 1998. Ruth worked at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND, and then for Trail County Social Services in Hillsboro, ND until her retirement. After her retirement, she moved from Mayville to Portland, ND where she lived for a couple years and then moved to Perham, MN. She also loved playing the piano, playing cards, and reading. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Mayville Lutheran Church, and bridge clubs in Mayville and Perham.
Survivors include her son, Ronald (Jennifer) Halda, West Fargo, ND; daughters: Maxine (Martin) Agather, St. Louis Park, MN, and Nancy Halda (James Partlow), St. Paul, MN; grandchildren: Aime, Alison, and Kelsey Agather, Nathan and Melissa Halda; sisters: Carol Tweten, Grand Forks, ND, and Judy (Gail) Groth, Longview, WA.
Also preceding her in death were her parents and brother James.
