Sanford H. Strand, 95, of Finley, North Dakota died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the Hatton Prairie Village in Hatton, North Dakota.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Finley Lutheran Church in Finley with burial in Finley Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Friday in the Hatton Prairie Village Chapel from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a 7:00 pm Prayer Service and one hour prior to services in the church.
Sanford Hartvig Strand was born June 1, 1914 in Golden Lake Township, Steele County, North Dakota the son of Iver and Gunhild (Ramstad) Strand. He was raised there and attended country school. He worked at the Farmers Union Oil and later started Strand Trucking. On April 12, 1941 he was united in marriage to Florence Torgerson in Hatton. They made their home in Finley and he continued to operate Strand Trucking and in the early 1960's started Strand Ready Mix. In 1979 he sold the business to his sons and continued to operate the pay loader until he was 89. In 2004 he and Florence moved to the Hatton Prairie Village in Hatton.
He was a member of Finley Lutheran Church, Peterson-Olson American Legion Post #13, Finley Commercial Club, Finley Cemetery Board and Finley Fire Department. He also served as a director of Finley Farmers Union and in 1997 was given the Finley Community Service Award.
Sanford enjoyed the Minnesota Twins, trading cars and traveling to Arizona.
He is survived by his wife, Florence; sons, Rick (Marilyn) of Finley, North Dakota, Douglas (Kathy) of Cooperstown, North Dakota and Alan (Sonia) of Mayville, North Dakota; daughter, Sheila (Paul) Beaudry of Post Falls, Idaho; grandchildren, Kim (Mark) Percy, Laura (Dustin) Roberge, Nicole (Michael) Bangasser, Jennifer (Clayton) Dilly, Mark (Nicole Blasky) Strand, Steven (Kari) Strand, Matthew Strand, Patrick (Trish Carriere) Strand and Melissa Strand; great-grandchildren, Madeline and Dexter Percy, Taylor and Chase Roberge, Makenna Dilly and Mikko Strand. Nieces and Nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gerald; brothers, Ludwig, Melvin, Gunder, Ingvald, Gilman and Ludwig; and sisters, Ida Strand, Gelana Strand, Gina Wamstad, Julia Wilson and Lottie Brinkman.
The Bilden Funeral Home of Hatton is assisting the family with arrangements.
