A visitation will be held Sunday, November 25, 2012 from 4:00 to 6:00pm with a 6:00pm prayer service at the Bilden Funeral Home, Northwood, ND.
Shirley was born September 20, 1936, in Hawley, MN to William and Lucille Dauner. She attended District 93 country school until sixth grade and graduated from Hawley High School in 1954. In June of 1955, she married Irving Holm, and had three children. Irving and Shirley lived in or near Hawley until they moved to Moorhead in 1978. Shirley worked for many years sewing draperies. In the mid 1980's, she attended Moorhead State University and graduated with a degree in social work. She worked at Viking Manor in Ulen, MN, and at Fraiser Hall in Fargo, ND. After graduating, she married Darwin Windloss on November 17, 1989. She spent the next 23 years enjoying life on the farm near Finley, ND, and staying in their condo in Moorhead. Shirley kept herself busy by being a farmer's wife. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, baking, and most of all, traveling with her husband to as many polka festivals as they could. They were loyal followers of their favorite band and danced to their music as often as they could. Shirley left behind love in every quilt and afghan that she made and gave away to her many friends and family and to many deserving veterans at the VA Hospital. She was an active member at Beaver Creek Church and VFW Auxiliary. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
Shirley is survived by her husband Darwin Windloss, Sharon, ND; daughters, Evie (Rick) Wenner, Hitterdahl, MN, LuAnn Doeden, Moorhead, MN, and son David (Diane) Holm, Red Wing, MN; five grandchildren: Rori and Royce Wenner, Holly and Scott Holm, and Taylor Doeden; and one great grandchild, Hunter Mueller; sisters, Carol (Wesley) Erickson and Betty (Charles) McDonald, all of Hawley, MN, and one brother, James (Darlene) Dauner, Solway, MN. She is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, step-nephews, and step-nieces.
