Wallace "Wally" Thingelstad

Wallace “Wally” Thingelstad, 91, of Northwood, ND passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 10:00am at Northwood Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northwood. A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00p.m. with a 7:00p.m. prayer service at the Swarstad Chapel in Northwood.

Wally was born March 10, 1923 to Parnell and Alma (Hovland) Thingelstad in Northwood, ND. He grew up in Northwood and attended country school until the 8th grade. After school, Wally joined the United States Army before returning home to farm. On November 14, 1954, Wally married Peache Vangsnes at Sundahl Lutheran Church in Aneta, ND. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and cooking. Wally was a member of the Northwood American Legion, Northwood VFW, Northwood Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the Northwood Elevator Board.

Survivors include his wife, Peache; children: Carey Thingelstad, Indianapolis, IN, Colleen Thingelstad, Mead, WA; Grandchildren: Blake Young, Corey Thingelstad and Kelly Thingelstad; great-grandson, Gaihj Young; sister, Beverly Halvorson, Anaheim, CA, and brother, Gerald Thingelstad, Poinsettia, FL. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Wally is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald.
